News Of Break Up Catches Ween Member Mickey Melchiondo By Surprise

Yesterday, Music Feeds reported that Ween frontman Aaron Freeman said it was time for the band to break up after a quarter of century of writing, recording, touring and playing together.

The announcement of Ween’s break-up came when Freeman was speaking with Rolling Stone. Freeman admitted he had been thinking of breaking up the band for the better part of a decade and now the time has finally come.

“It’s time to move on… I’m retiring Gene Ween (Freeman’s alias)… It’s been a long time, 25 years. It was a good run”, Freeman said.

“For me it’s a closed book. In life sometimes, in the universe, you have to close some doors to have others open. There’s no, ‘Goddamn that such and such!’. For me, I’d like to think it’s a door I can close finally”, he said.

The news came not only as a shock to fans but, as it turns out, to fellow Ween bandmate Mickey Melchiondo.

According to Consequence of Sound, Melchiondo took to his Facebook page and posted the following statement:

“is news to me, all I can say for now I guess”, – referring to the band’s break-up.

Ween’s publicist was also taken by surprise by Freeman’s announcement: “I actually don’t have any further info at the moment but will alert you once I do”, he told the AV Club.
