Brace yourselves! Organisers of Newton’s Nation – Australia’s largest action sports and music festival, held atop of the iconic Mount Panorama in Bathurst – have just announced the awesome line up of a new generation of rock and hip hop artists, DJs and electronic acts for its fourth annual festival – and it’s massive!
Festival-goers from all over Australia trek to the mountain top for three days of action sports and two nights (Friday and Saturday) of the best live acts in the country at Newton’s Nation.
Leading the charge in 2012 is one of the most exciting bands to emerge from the Australian rock scene in recent times: Melbourne’s The Getaway Plan. Since the release of their long awaited sophomore album Requiem in November last year, which debuted at #17 on the ARIA chart, following 2008′s Other Voices, Other Rooms which debuted at #14, The Getaway Plan have since toured continuously, headlining capital cities and embarked on an impressive festival run including Pyramid Rock, Big Day Out and Breathe Of Life. With first single ‘The Reckoning’ taking off at commercial radio, and triple j spinning current single ‘Flying Colours’ on rotation, it is an eventful time for the four-piece who recently reformed after a two year hiatus.
Seth Sentry is the cream of the rising Aussie hip hop crop. He first gained prominence when triple j unearthed his debut track ‘The Waitress Song’, which eventually placed at #31 on that year’s coveted Hottest 100. With the new single ‘My Scene’ out now, and his debut album on the way, Seth is quickly forging a reputation as ‘one to watch’.
Currently on tour with the legendary Parkway Drive, Sydney hardcore outfits Northlane and Hand Of Mercy are already warming up for their date with the Newton’s Nation crowds. For Northlane, the band’s recently released debut album Discoveries was a game changer. The critical acclaim following it’s release was unprecedented and their fanbase exploded almost overnight. Hand Of Mercy has built a strong following with their own brand of fun, catchy yet brutal style of Hardcore pop mosh. They’ve shared the stage with some of the country’s and the world’s most high profile hardcore acts such as Bury Your Dead (USA), Amity Afflication, Unearth (USA) Deez Nuts, The Ghost Inside, A Day To Remember (USA) and many more.
In the two years since Parachute Youth first worked together, they teamed up with a completely blown away Ajax, who in turn recruited a completely bowled over Sam La More to engineer the single ‘Can’t Ge Better Than This’. A wonderfully hypnotic celebration of life, the track garnered a heap of attention for the duo: the insanely magnificent accompanying film clip shot by French clip producer Julien Paolini served up nearly 50,000 views in ten days on Youtube; it was the first played song on triple j radio in 2012, and is currently being played on airwaves around the world.
Following their performance at the national Soundwave tour this year, Sydney pop-punkers Heroes For Hire take the stage at Newton’s. Forever on tour in their trusty van, be it festivals with Paramore and Parkway Drive, arena tours with Short Stack and Boys Like Girls or sweaty clubs with Fireworks and The Wonder Years, the release of the bands’ latest album Take One For The Team has been spearheaded by lead single ‘All Messed Up’; a track which has now become a commercial radio staple throughout Australia.
Since forming in February 2011, The Rubens have seen a rapid rise through the Australian music scene. Following the radio success of single ‘Lay it Down’, the soul-soaked four piece were lucky enough to score the coveted triple J Unearthed opening spot on the Dome Stage at Homebake. They went on to secure the place of #57 in triple J’s Hottest 100, and will support Lanie Lane on her national tour this May – but not before they rock the crowds at Bathurst.
Sydney locals, Glass Towers were asked to play Splendour In The Grass in their hometown of Byron Bay in 2009, after having only played a couple of shows together as a band – and whilst still in high school. They’ve been a finalist in triple j unearthed high and shared the stage with the likes of Tame Impala, Cloud Control, Bluejuice and Children Collide to name a few. Last year saw the band record their debut EP with ARIA Award winning Wayne Connolly. Their fresh new single ‘Jumanji’ from the band’s forthcoming debut album, can be heard on the triple j airwaves, and the guys are ready to rock the Newton’s stage.
Wow and Ubbs are the two catalysts in the explosive duo Stoney Roads DJs. With a background and affinity in most every genre of dance, the pair can weave together anything from a jacking house style to party hip-hop set. They have conquered dance floors around the country, and now they’re ready to conquer Mount Panorama!
Other bands on Newton’s Nation line up include Bathurst locals City Falls and Gold Coast punk outfit Skyway, indie-pop duo Sures, roots artist Luke Cleland, and acoustic pop rock gem, Jordan Millar.
The festival is home to the World Cup for downhill skate, luge and inline, Australian BMX freestyle titles, NSW mountain bike series, scooter, skate, parkour, mountain boards, huffy sliders, BMX flatland and more of the weirdest and wildest sporting events still to be announced.
