UPDATE: 14/08/2016: The official line up has now arrived! You can check it out here.
ORIGINAL STORY: Well Nick Murphy has kicked off his music career with a bang.
Days after pulling a classic P. Diddy on us and changing his stage name, the artist formerly known as Chet Faker has just become the second act to be announced on the lineup for the 2017 St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
And that’s not all, he’s also dropped his debut single under the new monicker, an experimental new track dubbed Fear Less.
It’s safe to say Nick Murphy already sounds markedly different from Chet Faker. Fear Less (below) is a sonic tapestry of ambient electronica that builds into a stomping distorted, snare-heavy chorus, a far cry from the more soulful stylings of Faker’s acclaimed debut album Built on Glass and his funkified Marcus Marr collab The Trouble With Us.
You’ll be able to catch Murphdawgs performing Fear Less at all dates of Laneway 2017 with a dynamic new show, featuring a setlist packed with new material (but DW, there’ll also be plenty of his old tunes from the Chet Faker days as well).
Meanwhile, his inclusion on the Laneway 2017 lineup comes after Briggs and Trials’ hip hop pairing A.B. Original were announced as the first act and MCs for the festival last week.
Stay tuned for the full Laneway 2017 lineup announcement on Music Feeds tomorrow morning, and get your ears on the first song from Chet Faker’s evolution into Nick Murphy, below.
