Attention Queens Of The Stone Age & Kyuss fans: if you’re in or around Sydney tonight you can catch badass alumnus of both bands Nick Oliveri smashing out a free sort-of secret show chock-full of your fave tunes.
But even radder, the magnificently bearded bass slapper has recruited Sydney stoner groove-rockers Sumeru to act as his official backing band for the night, and will team up with the Aussie act for an encore set of max distortion following his previously announced Death Acoustic Tour performance at Frankies Pizza By The Slice, which had to be rescheduled to tonight following visa issues.
After delivering a 45-minute unplugged set at the Hunter Street den of cheese & sleaze from 10pm, the QOTSA divorcee will join forces with Sumeru to jam out a full set of fan faves from Oliveri’s time as founding member and key songwriter of both Queens and Kyuss.
“We’re upping the stakes a little though and throwing together a blistering ‘classic QOTSA, KYUSS’ set from one of Sydney’s greatest acts so Nick can get LOUD after throwing down his acoustic thing,” Frankies reps spruik in the official Facebook event.
This is some seriously cool shit straight out of the Whisky A Go-Go or House Of Blues playbook that we really don’t see enough of here in Australia. Plus it’s free and there’s “Hot fukn’ pizza til’ 3am” so what have you got to lose?

That about sums it up. Monday shmonday.
