NIMA Seeking Nominations For New Event

Nominations have opened for the inaugural National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMA), which will be held in Darwin in August.

The Australian music industry is being pressed for nominations in categories such as Best Act, Best Album, Best Song and New Talent of the Year, according to MusicNSW.

The new awards are designed to recognise excellence on the indigenous scene, organised by MusicNT as a peer-nominated thing celebrating innovation, dedication and any outstanding contributing to Indigenous music in Australia.

The event is a development of MusicNT’s existing annual Indigenous Music Awards, more designed to mark the major Indigenous artists of the past to influence the new crop of artists, including Naomi Wenitong, Gurrumul, Dan Sultan.

Nominations opened yesterday (June 1) and close on July 22, with the big night itself taking place on August 19.
