Remember that inspired bit of street art that flipped Barack Obama’s “Hope” poster into the Tony Abbott “Hopeless” poster? The artist behind this widely disseminated piece of work was Michael Agzarian, father to DJ, producer and label manager, Nina Las Vegas.
Agzarian is back in activist mode with a new series of bin stickers targeting a number of federal government ministers. The stickers are for sale via the Coalition Against the Coalition website and Agzarian does not hold back his contempt for our current ruling class.
With a federal election slated for the first half of this year, Agzarian’s stickers seek to sway voters living in electorates held by key Coalition ministers. Above an image of Scott Morrison, member for Cook, are the words “Full of shit.” Peter Dutton, member for Dickson, is positioned under the heading “Rancid refuse.”
Agzarian has also created designs featuring the member for Kooyong, Josh Frydenberg (“toxic hazard”); member for Hume, Angus Taylor (“Full of crap”); member for New England, Barnaby Joyce (“Defiled Landfill”); senator for SA, Simon Birmingham (“Slimy rubbish”); and senator for NSW, Marise Payne (“Foreign scraps”).
In drawing her fans’ attention to her dad’s handiwork, Nina Las Vegas wrote, “Time to throw this useless waste of a government out.” When the “Hopeless” posters started circulating back in 2015, Las Vegas wrote on Twitter that she “Couldn’t be prouder” of her dad.
