Nina Las Vegas, longtime host of triplej‘s House Party, has today announced that she’ll be stepping down from her role on the Saturday night staple after five and half years to focus on an expanded role on Mix Up Exclusives.
Starting 7th June, Las Vegas will be hosting the first hour of Mix Up Exclusives each week, before kicking off three exclusive sets from producers from around the world. In the meantime, the presenter and DJ is going on an extended musical jaunt, heading overseas to take in events like Coachella and the Miami Winter Music Conference.
In a statement released to media this morning, NLV says she wants to ensure the radio she makes reflects her life accurately:
I spend most of my weekends in clubs, so I want to make sure the radio I make reflects the absolute best of that. Mix Up Exclusives keeps getting better and better. In the last few months alone we’ve had exclusive DJs sets from Four Tet, Cashmere Cat, Dillon Francis, Boys Noize, Ta-ku, RL Grime, Baauer, Brodinski and MK to name a few. I can’t wait to up the ante even more, focusing on the best sounds coming out of Australia and the rest of the world.
She also told triplej’s Matt and Alex this morning:
“It’s a pretty crazy time for dance music in Australia. And I’m lucky enough to be the person who, when dance artists come to Australia, they come straight to triple j and straight to me … but I’ve never really gotten a chance to be part of that craziness overseas. So I’m scene-ing out overseas for a bit. And when I come back, I’m just going to focus on Mix Up Exclusives. It’s going to be massive because I’m going to be resident. I want to concentrate on the best of what I do, which right now is what I play in the clurrrbs.”
Nina’s last House Party will be this Saturday night, the 22nd March, with the new host to be announced on air.
