UK indie folk act Noah and the Whale have announced their breakup in a short Facebook post, after eight years together as a band.
“Noah and the Whale have decided to call it a day. We have had an incredible eight years together and are immensely grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way,” wrote the band in their statement.
“There are too many people to mention in this short message but we would like to take this opportunity to give special thanks to all of our amazing fans, who have supported us so magnificently over the years and made everything possible.”
Noah and the Whale have released four studio albums in their eight years. They make an impact with their debut album Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down, which spawned the radio-ready indie hit 5 Years Time.
They followed that up with 2009’s The First Days of Spring, their 2011 album Last Night On Earth – which featured the fittingly titled track L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N. – and their final 2013 album Heart of Nowhere.
The London-based band was led by frontman and main songwriter Charlie Fink, and includes Tom Hobden, Matt Owens, Fred Abbott and Michael Petulla. Interestingly, their lineup once included indie folk darling Laura Marling. They toured Australia just once, in 2011 for Splendour In The Grass.
They did not elaborate on what would come next for each of the band members but the statement provided links to their own personal websites. According to NME, Owens and Abbott have already announced solo album, Hebden is touring with Mumford and Sons, Petulla is involved in other projects with local artists and Fink has begun sharing pictures from the recording studio on Instagram.
