3% is a new hip hop supergroup that combines the talents of Nooky, Dallas Woods, and Angus Field. The trio have just released their new single, ‘OUR PEOPLE’, which samples iconic dance group The Presets, and explores the pressing issue of Indigenous deaths in custody.
Nooky, a Yuin man, recently made the news for calling the “no” vote in the Voice to Parliament referendum “the most overt, unconcealed manifestation of racism I have ever experienced in my whole life”.
3% – ‘OUR PEOPLE’ feat. The Presets
Nooky is a rapper, producer and triple j radio host. On songs such as the recent single ‘Run Dingo’, Nooky combines activism with cutting-edge rap stylings. Noongar man Dallas Woods is a rapper known for featuring on Baker Boy’s single ‘Black Magic’, and for his own burgeoning career.
“My messages come from a very staunch part of my heart,” Woods said in a press release regarding his rhymes on ‘OUR PEOPLE. “I hate that we still have to fight but love that we refuse to stop.”
The third member of 3%, Angus Field, is an upcoming musician in his own right. Field had this to say about the track: “This song is written to punch the listener in the face with a strong message and to make you sit down and listen. I’m proud to say I have been a part of the writing process and that I can tell a story of my people in this way to the rest of the world.”
3% are set to perform their debut gig at the Lord Gladstone this Saturday, 21st October, as part of SXSW Sydney. ‘OUR PEOPLE’ is available to stream now.
