The rebooted government-funded gig series, Great Southern Nights, will celebrate “the very essence of live music in Australia,” when it returns to NSW next autumn.
The NSW Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney, Stuart Ayres, has announced the revival of Great Southern Nights, the live event series that brought 1100-plus gigs to all parts of NSW late last year. The reboot will take place from Friday, 18th March to Sunday, 10th April 2022 and is set to feature “hundreds of venues and artists throughout NSW.”
“[Great Southern Nights is] about getting artists on stages, gigs in venues, and audiences back enjoying performances by our talented creatives right across the state,” said Ayres.
Amy Shark, Baker Boy, Jessica Mauboy, Jimmy Barnes, Missy Higgins and Peking Duk are the first acts announced for Great Southern Nights v2.0. The program is also set to feature performances from emerging talent and grassroots, local acts. It’s being overseen by the NSW Government through Destination NSW along with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA).
“I’m super excited to be playing as part of Great Southern Nights,” said Amy Shark. “Needless to say every artist, every band, every DJ, just everyone is looking forward to playing shows to real life people, so make sure you get behind it.”
