Icelandic indie six-piece Of Monsters and Men are returning to our shores for the second time in a year to play their own headline shows, this time on the back of their appearance on the upcoming Laneway Festival 2013 lineup in January next year. They’ll be playing 3 dates, all on the East Coast, including Sydney and Melbourne, and a show in Byron Bay in between.
Their music carries a dynamic live energy mixed with folk charm and fist-pumping choruses. Wielding the catchiest of tunes, the accordions, glockenspiels and horns offer something uplifting and atmospheric, all underpinned by electric guitars, creating an expansive dimension to their sound. Lyrically, their elaborately crafted blend of modern folk rock tells stories of nature, love and mysticism.
The group first appeared on the international radar, playing an early slot on Iceland’s renowned Airwaves Festival in 2010, with critics beginning to catch on to their contagious indie pop sound. Their music carries a dynamic live energy mixed with folk charm and fist-pumping choruses. Their debut album My Head Is an Animal was released in April this year, and they have enjoyed triple j airplay, blog love, and a growing fan base, echoing similar sentiments that locally we’ll love them just as much.
Tickets for all shows go on sale Thursday, 1st November, 9am
