Oh Sees may have released their 21st studio album Smote Reverser last year, but if you think that’s slowing down the perennially prolific outfit, you’ve got another thing coming. The constantly mutating band have announced a new double album entitled Face Stabber, due out August 16 through Castle Face.
“This album is Soundcloud hip-hop reversed, a far flung nemesis of contemporary country and and flaccid algorithmic pop-barf,” reads a predictably wild press release about the record.
“No songs about money or love are floating in the ether. Just memories, echoes, foggy blurs, blip-blop goes the scope, heavy funk, dystopia-punk canons, long jams, bloated solos dribbling down your caved-in chest.”
So… hopefully that clears things up for you.
To coincide with the announcement, they’ve also shared the closing track from Face Stabber, a 21-minute long psych-jazz-garage rock epic called ‘Henchlock’. Settle in, get nice and cosy and stream the song below.
In other Oh Sees news, the band are auctioning off the cockpit set used in the video for Smote Reverser song ‘Anthemic Aggressor’. Proceeds from the John Dwyer-built set (which includes “stoner alien marionettes” and “all blinky lights”) will go to Elizabeth House in Pasadena, which provides shelter and support to homeless pregnant women and their children.
