Legendary rapper, eccentric and bon-vivant Ol’ Dirty Bastard appeared alongside his brothers in the equally legendary hip hop crew Wu-Tang Clan on stage over the weekend for this year’s Rock The Bells Festival, doing so in the form of a hologram.
Music Feeds reported back in May, that the iconic hip hop festival would be closing with a bang, featuring a performance by choice members of the Wu-Tang crew in the flesh, with their late friend and bandmate Ol’ Dirty Bastard in a less corporeal form. Naturally the Clan’s golden rule of “word is bond” prevailed and the son unique indeed appeared on stage with them.
Though the Clan’s set was marred by constant sound issues, which at one point prompted member Method Man to threaten a walk-off, saying “Two more minutes and I’m walkin’ the fuck out, hologram or not!” the ODB hologram went off unhitched and much to the delight of the audience. The 3D imaged Russell Tyrone Jones then helped perform the classic songs Shame On A Nigga and Shimmy Shimmy Ya.
Earlier in the week, a hologram of hip hop icon Eazy-E, best known as a member of N.W.A. as well as his solo output and his label Ruthless Records, joined Bone Thugs-n-Harmony on stage for their Rock The Bells Performance.
Many will remember Tupac Shakur’s resurrection during Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre‘s set at Coachella Festival 2012, the first and most famous of these hologram appearances.
