Following Zayn Malik’s departure earlier this year (and subsequent nasty disses at the band), it looks like more bad news for teen girls the world over as One Direction‘s temporary hiatus might be turning into a full blown break up.
While the boy band have yet to confirm anything, Us Weekly reports that that the breakup will be permanent citing “a source close to the band”.
“The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers,” the source is quoted as saying, as well as revealing that the group decided “not to renew their recording contract”.
The source and another insider close to group went on to explain that each of the One D-ers are pursuing their own paths following the break up. Harry Styles is trying to get into acting, Liam Payne is looking toward a career as a producer and Louis Tomlinson is soon expecting his first child.
And while a lot of hearts both young and old will be broken if the news is true, they still managed to squeeze out five albums in five years, which is one more album than One Direction forerunner *NYSNC and Backstreet Boys, so take some solace in that tonight while you cry yourself to sleep.
