A guitar which once belonged to late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain is up for auction on eBay.
The axe in question — a Hagstrom Blue Sparkle Deluxe — was supposedly purchased in December 1992, before being converted for left-handed use. The guitar was allegedly given away to a friend of Cobain’s following his death in 1994, and later ended up in the hands of a collector in Portland, Oregon.
Now, with Nirvana memorabilia currently selling for top-dollar, the piece of rock history is up for sale, with 10 per cent of proceeds from the auction going to Portland charity Transitions Projects, which helps homeless people transition into housing.
The top bid for the guitar is USD$5,100 at the time of writing, but is yet to reach the seller’s reserve price.
The guitar has been authenticated by Earnie Bailey, who worked for Nirvana as a technician for a number of years. Watch him discuss the guitar’s history in the video below.
The auction for the guitar will run for 10 days, ending on 27th February. To join the auction, head to the guitar’s eBay page.
This isn’t the first time something of Cobain’s has been sold off. Last year, another guitar of his was auctioned off, and in 2015 his sweater from Nirvana’s ‘MTV Unplugged’ session sold for around AUD$200,000.
