Only One Of These Two Unheard Kurt Cobain Songs Is Legit

It’s a tale of two Kurt Cobain songs. A pair of the grunge legend’s previously unreleased tunes are in the spotlight today for very different reasons. In one corner, we have a brand new acoustic track which has been confirmed to reach our earholes for the very first time in May, via official channels.

In the other corner, we have a supposedly “leaked” Nirvana song, which Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, has slammed as a total fake and flagged as the latest subject for her regularly scheduled bout of legal action.

The forthcoming HBO documentary, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck, has renewed a great deal of interest in the late singer’s music, with the film promising to feature previously unheard Cobain tracks from Love’s personal archives.

One of those songs has just been revealed by director Brett Morgen via Twitter as “a mind blowing 12 minute acoustic Cobain unheard track”, which will be officially showcased on the doco’s soundtrack.

However, another Cobain song, supposedly the first from Love’s hard drive to see the light of day earlier this month, is apparently more bogus than that time Miley Cyrus tried to cover Smells Like Teen Spirit.

Entitled Flaccid Bone (misspelled by the alleged hacker on YouTube as Flacid Bone), the song was originally claimed to have been “leaked” in the same way that Madonna and Bjork songs have been, recently.

“I hacked this off Courtney,” the self-styled leaker posted on YouTube. “I would like to remain anonymous. She said this came from the early ’90s recording sessions. Supposedly Kurt hated it and canned it. I mean no disrespect to Kurt, but this is coming out eventually. He hated several of his songs anyway!”

But, as TMZ reports, not only has Love rubbished the song as a total fabrication, she also claims that she never had it in her possession in the first place.

The grunge queen is reportedly also working with law enforcement to track down the imposter, and is readying a fresh legal assault for when the individual in question is unmasked.

In the meantime, Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck is drawing rave reviews from the festival circuit. It – along with other legit unheard Cobain tracks – will premiere in the US on May 4th.
