Listen To Opeth’s Long-Awaited New Song ‘Cusp Of Eternity’

Swedish progressive metal outfit Opeth have unveiled new track Cusp Of Eternity, the first single to be taken from the band’s forthcoming eleventh studio album Pale Communion.

Cusp Of Eternity proves that Opeth have moved on from growling death metal and into a modern prog-rock group indebted to bands like King Crimson and Yes. The track is typically dramatic, but with some delicate guitar work from both Åkerfeldt and fellow band member Fredrik Åkesson.

Frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt‘s instantly recognisable vocals have been cleaned up a little, but they still carry that unmistakable Opeth tone. Åkerfeldt recently spoke on the change in direction, telling Noisey, “I wanted to do something more melodic with this album… there’s stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall… I was pretty consistent with that frame of mind throughout the writing process.”

The song’s accompanying video takes a detailed look at the Pale Communion album art.

Pale Communion was originally set for release in June, but has been delayed by a number of months. The album’s Australian release is currently set for 22nd August.
