Ozzy Osbourne Shuts Down Retirement Talk “It’s Not Me That Wants To Retire; It’s Black Sabbath”

The Energiser bunny A.K.A Ozzy Osbourne has shut down talk of an impending retirement of the Prince Of Darkness. In fact, Osbourne has gone as far to mention expanding Black Sabbath’s farewell tour. However it seems that his band mates might be the wet blankets in the dynamic.

Announced earlier in the year, The End tour is billed as the official and definite farewell run from the iconic rockers. The tour will actually wrap up in the band’s hometown of Birmingham. A neat little package, as it seems. Speaking to Billboard however, Osbourne is only just content with the whole thing, it would seem.

“[Guitarist] Tony Iommi wants to do 80 shows [as part of ‘The End’ tour]. We’re doing 80 shows. It’s good enough. I wouldn’t mind extending the tour for another few gigs. There’s a lot of people who won’t get to see us, but I don’t think it’s going to happen.”

If that, to you, sounds like the words of a man who is not at all keen to retire, then you’re on the money. Ozzy was quick to interject that The End wasn’t his idea, and that he won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon.

“It’s not me that wants to retire; it’s Black Sabbath…I’ll be continuing my own musical thing. My wife [and manager Sharon Osbourne] is good at telling me partial information, y’know, but I know I’m not hanging ’em up for awhile.”

There is always the opportunity for Ozzy to once again don the Ozzy Osbourne crown, and record or tour under his side project, he explains Being Ozzy Osbourne solo again is not a job. It’s a passion. It’s a love. It’s the biggest, greatest love affair of my life.”

The rollercoaster ride that has been the career of Black Sabbath first took shape in 1969 with Osbourne, Geezer Butler on bass and Bill Ward on drums. The band released their latest album 13 back in 2013.

Even with Black Sabbath out of the picture, Osbourne is going to be a busy dude. He will soon be lauching his new reality TV series featuring son Jack, as well as a joint venture with Slipknot for the inaugural Ozzfest Meets Knotfest festival.

Now that I think about it, why are you even mentioning retirement, Ozzy – GIT BACK TO WORK!
