While it hasn’t been that long between innings for Passenger, it seems 2016 will see the Brit back on the pitch, picking up his guitar and heading out on a headline tour of our capital cities in February and March.
The announcement comes after Passenger took to Facebook yesterday to dedicate a new song to the victims of the Paris and Beirut tragedies and others around the world, as well as writing a moving message of hope to remind us of “the good in people and the beauty that we create as human beings” in this time of darkness.
The tour is but the latest episode in Passenger’s long running love affair with the sunburnt country and will follow a stint opening for Ed Sheeran on his upcoming stadium tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Having toured here extensively while earning his stripes self-funding his own albums and tours, he would spend up to 6 or 9 months here in those days playing huge runs of regional shows and busking wherever people would listen. “Half of me feels like a domestic act because I’ve been here for so long,” he says of his long history of playing Down Under.
Still playing on the back of this year’s Whispers II, the follow up to his critically lauded Whispers, Passenger’s passionate following has been built not just on his talent for delivering transformative live shows, but also his innate ability to translate that sound onto a record.
Breaking through with the 2x platinum selling All The Little Lights, Passenger has steadily continued to scale the heights of success with his subsequent releases. Plus with all the proceeds from Whispers II going directly to UNICEF and their initiative to end child malnutrition in Liberia, Passenger has shows that the fame and success hasn’t robbed him of his conscience, the artist taking every opportunity he can to give back.
Tickets go on sale this week, with a pre-sale for Passenger fans on Wednesday the 18th of November before tickets go on sale for the general public on Friday the 20th of November. The full tour details are here below and stay tuned for any more news.
