Paul Kelly Got Roasted On ‘Hard Chat’, And It Was Absolutely Brutal

Australian music legend Paul Kelly has sat down with comedian Tom Gleeson for the latest edition of his brutally honest The Weekly segment, ‘Hard Chat’.

Gleeson spared no time before laying into Kelly, swiftly suggesting that his 2017 album Life Is Fine was so popular because it actually contained “popular” pop songs.

“People like the pop songs, just do them all the time instead of all that experimental shit,” Gleeson said.

Discussing Kelly’s hit single ‘How To Make Gravy’, Gleeson asked, “You wrote ‘How To Make Gravy’, a great song about someone who’s in prison. Should you make the prequel, ‘How To Make Meth’?”

To which a calm Kelly replied, “I know how to make gravy, but I don’t know how to make meth. You’ve got to stick to what you know.”

But perhaps Gleeson’s most brutal question was, “You’ve toured before with Neil Finn. What was it like playing songs that are more popular than yours?”

Watch how Kelly responded, below.

Paul Kelly’s new album Nature will be released on 12th October, before he headlines a series of ‘Making Gravy’ concerts in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane this December.
