Sir Paul McCartney has revealed that he’d be up for a collaboration with Thom Yorke of Radiohead, but the Beatles legend is worried that Yorke might be too busy, or just simply uninterested in the idea of making music with someone from the most famous band of all time.
Speaking with NME, McCartney said that his daughter Stella McCartney has some projects in the works, and is also keen to work with Yorke, who has appeared increasingly open to collaborative projects as he’s moved through his career. Sir Paul still appears hesitant though, saying:
“I’m a bit sort of paranoid to just ring him up. ‘Hey Thom, it’s Paul here. What do you fancy, what are you doing? Do you fancy writing something?’ Just in case he says, ‘Er, actually I’m busy’.”
Thom Yorke seems forever involved in musical projects, even admitting in interviews that he feels a constant need to be creating or working on something. This may or may not benefit McCartney’s plight.
McCartney also confirmed that he still sees Bob Dylan as a possible collaborator after those rumours circulated a few years ago. “There were big rumours a couple of years ago about me and Bob Dylan writing together, and I’ve still got that at the back of my mind. I would like to do it,” he said.
Both Yorke and McCartney are quite busy at the moment. McCartney has a new album (in fact, it’s actually called New) set for release on 14th October, while Yorke remains on a US tour with his Radiohead side-project Atoms For Peace.
There were rumours back in August that McCartney might tour Australia as early as November this year, but with each passing day that prospect seems less and less likely.
