Perfect, Something For Kate Cover Taylor Swift’s ‘Cardigan’ For Like A Version

Something For Kate took on this week’s Like A Version on triple j. They’ve taken on one of 2020’s biggest tracks, Taylor Swift’s ‘cardigan’.

Taken from Swift’s massive indie album folklore, the band doesn’t stray too far from the original. But Paul Dempsey’s iconic vocal sound and the addition of guitars and drums makes it a Something For Kate special.

In their Behind the Like A Version interview, they reveal Something For Kate are massive Taylor Swift fans.

“The process was then how to do deconstruct it and put it back together in our own way and give it a fresh approach,” says the band’s frontman, Paul Dempsey.

“Rather than just trying to emulate the original song.”

“We Something For Kate-ified it,” says bassist, Stephanie Ashworth.

“And I guess that means heavier guitars and organic drums. Nice big lush sounds, but a bit more unhinged I guess.”

“Taylor Swift is a great songwriter, she’s a really great artist,” says drummer, Clint Hyndman. “We could’ve played this a million different ways, but it’s still a great song.”

While they were there, they shared their original performance. They performed ‘Come Back Before I Come Back To My Senses’, taken from their 2020 album, The Modern Medieval.

How good.
