Perth Man Charged Over That Fake Mark Ronson DJ Set

A 34-year-old man has been charged with three counts of fraud after he allegedly masterminded a fake DJ set by Mark Ronson in Perth while the producer was in the country for Splendour In The Grass in July.

The show in question was advertised to take place at the Matisse Beach Club’s ‘Winter Funk Fest’ in Scarborough on Saturday, 25th July, but couldn’t happen because Ronson was in Byron Bay to perform at Splendour In The Grass.

As WA Today reports, police investigations have revealed the Perth man has no connections with Ronson, whose fans had spent up to $1100 on tickets to attend his fake Matisse Beach Club DJ set.

Police say the alleged fraudster booked the sham gig by acting the part of two other men. They say the man charged contacted Matisse Beach Club in June and convinced management to make a contractual agreement with him to book Ronson, and the club later transferred a sum of money.

On the night of the fake set, the club posted an apology to Facebook, saying, “We are really disappointed to announce Matisse have just been informed by DJ Ronson’s promoter that he is unable to make it to our Winter Funk Fest tonight – due to unforeseen logistical issues getting back to Perth from Byron Bay today.”

Ronson himself followed this up by taking to Twitter the following day to say the situation made him “angry”, before promising free tickets to his next Perth show to anyone who had purchased tickets. What a guy.

The man charged over the fake Ronson DJ set is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on 1st October.
