Australia’s lone heavy metal hopefuls for Eurovision 2022 Voyager have unveiled the song they’re hoping will win them a ticket to Italy.
ICYMI the Perth progsters put their hands (and keytars) up to represent the green & gold at next year’s sequin-studded song contest, but first, they’ll need to beat out a bunch of fellow Aussie songsters in the televised seeding round, Eurovision: Australia Decides.
And their weapon of choice for the battle: an 80’s-inspired Nordic metal anthem dubbed ‘Dreamer’.
“As humans, we tend to look to the stars and glorify what could be,” explains Voyager vocalist and keytarist Danny Estrin. “Simply, ‘Dreamer’ is about looking at the here, the now and valuing what we have around us.
“Especially over the last two years, hopes and dreams vs the tiny locked down bubble we live in has been a constant push and pull… It’s good to be a dreamer, but the grass isn’t necessarily always greener.
“We’re bringing this track to Eurovision – Australia Decides as our official entry and we can’t wait to finally be on stage again!”
Eurovision – Australia Decides will take place on the Gold Coast on Saturday, 26th February 2022, hosted by Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst and broadcast on SBS.
Voyager will go head-to-head against the likes of previous Eurovision contestant Isaiah Firebrace, local indie-pop icon Jaguar Jonze and Australian Idol legend Paulini in the bout, which will see the people of Down Under vote for the artist they most want to champion Australia at Eurovision 2022.
