Boorloo/Perth-based artist CHEZ is continuing her sonic alt-pop evolution with the arrival of her intoxicating single ‘honeY’ – produced by artist herself in collaboration with Caleb and Reece Lenzo (We The Kings, 44phantom, SK8).
The trap-infused track tackles some personal themes, with CHEZ honing in on her own “internal battles of self-doubt and low self-esteem when in a relationship”.
CHEZ – ‘honeY’
“The way I view myself or see myself is, at the best of times – downright terrible,” the artist confesses. “It’s those fun internal battles of, ugh, I’ve put on weight since I was 18; how could anyone find me attractive? But in those moments, you have someone who thinks you are perfect, despite my flaws. And most of the time, you think they’re lying or delusional.”
She continues: “Sometimes our minds are our own worst enemy, so lyrically, I wanted this to be able to resonate with a vast majority, and sonically, I wanted the track to almost play a make-fun-of-yourself-esque vibe. You can cry and jiggle your body around at the same time, and I think that’s exactly what you need sometimes.”
You can take ‘honeY’ for a spin up above, or catch CHEZ live supporting US act Set It Off this November.
