Sad news from Perth’s Hyperfest, with organisers now announcing that the event has been cancelled for 2018.
It comes after they issued a warning earlier this month that ticket sales were slow and the long-running, all-ages fest was in danger of being axed, and now the pin has tragically been pulled.
“Sadly, today we have decided to cancel our upcoming festival scheduled for Saturday 8 December,” organisers write on Facebook.
“We are disappointed to report poor ticket sales as the primary factor affecting our cancellation, and apologise to the artists and ticket-holders that have made a commitment to the festival this year.”
They go on to explain that refunds will be automatically processed onto the credit card used for the original ticket purchase within the next 3 business days.
“If you paid cash or EFTPOS at an outlet, please return to the same outlet to obtain a refund.”
The silver lining is — despite the cancellation of next month’s event — organisers promise that “this is not the end for Hyper”.
“We hope to regroup and present a new event for Western Australian young people in 2019,”they write.
“We appreciate the overwhelming support we have gained since our original announcement; it has truly warmed our hearts in this tough time.”
Their post included a link to a survey to help future events, and they invited fans to take part.
The event takes pride in being drug, alcohol, and smoke-free and enjoyed a successful run back in February of this year.
The December edition of HyperFest was supposed to have acts like DZ Deathrays, Polish Club, and Antonia and the Lazy Susans performing.
