Last Thursday night Aussie music legend ‘Blackie’ of The Hard-Ons was bashed by a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy while he was driving his taxi. According to a statement from the band, he suffered a skull fracture, 16 stitches, and swelling on the brain. “Thankfully, he is now in a more stable condition and has been moved from the critical room”, the statement said.
According to the SMH, the teenagers were arrested. The boy has now been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will appear at Hornsby Children’s Court on June 21. The girl will be charged under the Young Offender’s Act, police said.
The statement from the band went on to say: “He does not remember all details but he is getting better every day. Not sure when he can play music again. We will know more in the coming days. He has already been told he cannot drive for 6 weeks due to his head trauma. Please send him a get-well message through Facebook, he’ll read it all when he gets out in a few days time. I’m sure he’ll get better soon. He is a pretty tough cookie.”
The Hard-Ons bass player, Ray Ahn, said: “I’ve known him for many years and I know he wants to get back playing music again as soon as possible, but he will go with medical advice, it’s gonna be best to give up playing live for a while, so that he can fully recover and come back fitter than ever.”
The Hard-Ons are a punk rock band from Sydney that originally formed in 1981. They have been called Australia’s most commercially successful independent band, with over 250,000 record sales.
