Peter Frampton Sues label Over Digital Sales Royalties

It would seem that Peter Frampton, the man who brought us Baby, I Love Your Way, is a little bit less enthusiastic about the way his record label has been distributing his digital sales royalties. The singer filed against A&M Records, owned by Universal, stating “breach of contract and unfair competition” as his reason and in the belief that his digital sales profits have not been fairly distributed, Billboard reports, Frampton arguing that he should receive a higher percentage of the profits from digital sales compared to physical copies sold.

Having hired Richard Busch, the lawyer who recently won a very similar case on behalf of Eminem, helping to set a precedent for seeking royalties on digital music sales, Frampton would be quietly confident as his record contract is said to be almost identical to that of Mr Mathers. Universal, however, claim that Eminem’s case did not set any precedent and that the ruling in that instance only applies to that specific case.
