CONTENT WARNING: The following article contains allegations of sexual misconduct and psychological abuse
Last week, New York Times published a story where multiple women, including ex-wife Mandy Moore and an underaged fan, accused Ryan Adams of sexual misconduct and abuse.
Another artist who spoke to NYT about Adams was Phoebe Bridgers, and now she’s released another statement on Twitter following a “weird week.”
“Thank you from my whole fucking heart to my friends, my bands, my mom,” she wrote. “They all supported and validated me. They told me that what had happened was fucked up and wrong, and I was right to feel weird about it.”
She then went on to say that no one in Ryan’s circle held him accountable for his alleged actions, and gave a wider message for men to call friends out when they act “fucked up.”
“Ryan had a network too. Friends, bands, people he worked with. None of them held him accountable. They told him, by what they said or by what they didn’t, that what he was doing was okay. They validated him. He could not have done this without them.”
“Guys, if your friend is acting fucked up, call them out. If they’re actually your friend, they’ll listen. That’s the way this all gets better.”
The FBI has opened an inquiry into Adams’ alleged communication with the underage fan. Meanwhile, Bridgers wrapped up her debut Australian tour last night in Melbourne.
