Phoebe Bridgers is a firm supporter of a person’s fundamental right to choose whether to have abortions. The United States’ landmark abortion rights decision, Roe v. Wade, is in serious danger of being overturned.
Bridgers has shared details of a recent personal experience and encouraged her followers to donate to an abortion fund—i.e. an organisation that helps arrange and pay for patients’ abortion care.
“I had an abortion in October of last year while I was on tour,” Bridgers wrote on Twitter. “I went to planned parenthood where they gave me the abortion pill. It was easy. Everyone deserves that kind of access.”
Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organisation with headquarters in New York City. As its name suggests, Planned Parenthood runs birth control clinics around the USA.
Bridgers shared a link to an article on The Cut that lists the states in the USA seen as “hostile” to abortion, meaning they’ll likely try to prohibit abortions. It’s a long list: Mississippi, Texas, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Arkansas, South Dakota, Louisiana, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Indiana, Idaho, Utah, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Arizona, Wyoming, Tennessee, South Carolina, Iowa, Florida, Montana.
