Melbourne musician Phoebe Lou has launched the new solo project, Phoebe Go. Lou is known for fronting dreamy electronic duo Two People and indie-pop outfit Snakadaktal. Phoebe Go’s debut single, ‘We Don’t Talk,’ is out now.
Lou has been active in the music industry since her high school years. Snakadaktal were raised up courtesy of triple j Unearthed when Lou was just 15. After releasing singles such as ‘Fall Underneath’ and ‘Hung On Tight’, the band split in 2014.
Two People emerged a couple of years later, comprising Lou and Snakadaktal band mate, Joey Clough. Two People have since released two full-length records, First Body (2019) and Second Body (2020), and reached audiences in the USA and Britain, as well as Australia.
‘We Don’t Talk‘ is the first taste of Phoebe Go’s upcoming debut EP, Player. The EP is set to land on Thursday, 7th July. Simon Lam (I’lls, Kllo) produced the record, which draws influence from beabadoobee, Alex G and Car Seat Headrest.
Regarding the switch to solo artistry, Lou said, “I went into my writing studio every day, sat on my own, ate Milo out of the tin, and just tried really hard to find something that felt like me. Something that moved me. I had a piano and a guitar and that was kind of it. Maybe it doesn’t sound that different to being in a band or a duo, but trust me, it is. There’s nobody there to share the load.”
