Pink Floyd have shot down the rumours that they will be performing with Ed Sheeran at next weekend’s closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
According to Ultimate Classic Rock, the band issued a statement saying they won’t be taking part at the event.
“In response to press speculation, Pink Floyd state that the band is NOT performing at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games,” the statement read.
Fans were whipped into a frenzy when Sheeran told Nova FM that he’d be performing the band’s hit Wish You Were Here with them at next Sunday’s closing ceremony.
“I’m playing the closing ceremony – which I think is kinda cool right? A lot of people think that I’m doing a song with The Who, but I’m not – I’m doing a song with Pink Floyd. I’m doing Wish You Were Here.”
The surviving members of Pink Floyd last performed together in 2011 when David Gilmour and Nick Mason joined Roger Waters to play Outside the Wall during his show at London’s O2 Arena.
At this stage, The Who, Kaiser Chiefs, Take That, George Michael and Emeli Sande are expected to perform at the Closing Ceremony, which is said to have a theme of celebrating 50 years of British music. The Spice Girls are also highly tipped to reunite for a surprise performance at the event.
