Placebo are preparing to tour Australia in just under a month’s time, and ahead of their departure they’ve called out other bands for phoning in their own respective live shows.
Placebo’s shows are known for a special kind of live energy, and the band will play seven shows down under as part of their 20th anniversary tour. In an interview with The Music singer Brian Molko took aim specifically at American rock band Kings Of Leon when chatting about bands that “phone it in” when performing live.
“Some bands walk on and they phone it in and just get it done – have you ever seen the fucking Kings Of Leon?” said Molko. “Jesus, you might as well be watching cardboard cut-outs on a stage and play the record.”
He went on to speak of the importance that Placebo places on feeling a real connection with the audience during their shows.
“But we’re up there and we give a shit, and this connection with the audience feeds our soul, so we’re always putting everything we have into the live show,” he continued. “No complacency – complacency is forbidden in Placebo world.”
