Playground Weekender 2012 Ticket Holders May Not Get Refunds (Updated)

People who purchased tickets to the cancelled 2012 Playground Weekender Festival fear they may not be refunded after messandnoise reported that the company is $1.8 million dollars in debt. Last week it was revealed that Playground Weekender Pty Ltd was listed insolvent as of the 14th of February, leading people to believe there were more problems than the Hawkesbury flood.

A representative from Playground Weekender’s ticketing company told M+N they were still waiting to be informed about refunds.

A statement on the Playground promoters Facebook page on March 2nd encouraged fans to hold on to their tickets as they will still be valid next year:

Refund options are currently being explored… Alternatively, people are invited to keep hold of their tickets, which will be valid for Playground Weekender 2013.

Andy Rigby, Playground Weekender Promoter has said:

“Last year, we took the difficult decision to restructure the business and write off personal and business debts in excess of $1.5M to give the company a stable financial footing for the future. Playground Weekender went through a restructure prior to the 2012 event being announced, the festival is now owned by Playground Festivals Pty Ltd. Playground Festivals Pty Ltd put on the 2012 event and has now unfortunately been confronted with a natural disaster.

We have thoroughly enjoyed putting on the event for the last six years, even though at times it has been a real battle. At present, it is too early to tell whether there will be a Playground Weekender in 2013.”

Update: GreenTix have released this statement

GreenTix would like to clarify the situation regarding refunds to Playground Weekender festival ticket holders, after the three day festival was cancelled less than 36 hours prior to the gates opening, on advice from the State Emergency Services and NSW Police in relation to the flood risks presented by the dangerous levels of the Warragamba Dam.

As the event ticketing agent for the Playground Weekender festival, GreenTix abides by strict internal policies, and will take the following action:

To patrons who chose the Credit Card payment option, Green Tix will process refunds today, Friday March 9, 2012.

For any other refund enquiries regarding the event, patrons are advised to contact Playground Festivals direct via email on info@playgroundweekender.com.au
