Police have praised the 20,000 people who attended Newcastle’s This That and Scene And Heard festivals over the weekend, despite a small number of drug-related incidents.
Newcastle City Police District said 22 people were issued with court attendance notices for allegedly possessing illegal drugs at This That in Wickham Park on Saturday, 3rd November, while seven people were issued with notices for allegedly supplying drugs.
Three people were also transported to hospital during the festival, including two for drug-related illnesses.
On Sunday, 4th November, 13 drug detections were made at the inaugural Scene And Heard Festival, also in Wickham Park. Four people were allegedly found in possession of cannabis and cocaine.
Drug-detection dogs were used across the weekend, but police said “the majority of festival-goers across the weekend were well behaved and enjoyed the events safely”.
Newcastle City Police Area Command Superintendent and Operations Commander Brett Greentree said, “It was really positive to see people having a good time and heeding police warnings.
“The small number of people who ignored our advice about illegal activity were dealt with accordingly.
“Police worked closely with the promoter to ensure the events were pleasant for everyone.”
This year’s Scene And Heard festival featured the likes of The Living End, Spiderbait, Something For Kate and Killing Heidi, while This That was headlined by RL Grime, Broods and The Rubens.
