To no-one’s surprise, a whole bloody lot of people around the country tuned into the highly anticipated Powderfinger reunion performance. But, in even better news, a whole bloody lot of people dug deep and donated to Support Act and Beyond Blue.
In fact, the band raised almost half a million dollars and counting during the special performance, with money going to the band’s nominated charities of Support Act and Beyond Blue.
“In choosing to support Beyond Blue, Powderfinger and the band’s fans will have a massive impact on many lives,” Beyond Blue CEO Georgie Harman said in a press statement.
“Every dollar raised for Beyond Blue from Powderfinger’s gig will go to our 24/7 Support Service, which is funded by donations. Each year, the service provides free and immediate counselling, advice and referral to about 200,000 people. So on behalf of them and the Beyond Blue team, thank you Powderfinger and everyone who made this possible.”
Support Act CEO Clive Miller also gave his thanks in a press statement, saying “we feel totally privileged to have been associated with such a remarkable event.
“People in the music industry have been hugely impacted by COVID-19, with tens of thousands of artists, crew and music workers having lost their livelihoods literally overnight. They face a very uncertain future. Even with the gradual easing of restrictions, it could be 12 months or longer before everyone is back to earning a steady living from gigging and touring.
“The funds that you and your incredible fans have raised will help to ensure that Support Act is able to provide crisis relief and mental health services to thousands of people in the music industry throughout the pandemic and beyond.”
Donations are still open, and can be made via purchasing some limited edition merch, all of which you can do here. These will close at 11:59pm Sunday, 31st May.
