The Preatures Return With Retro-Cool New Single ‘Girlhood’ & Vivid LIVE Show

The Preatures are back with another stylishly vintage rock anthem dubbed ‘Girlhood’, which marks our first slice of their forthcoming second album.

Lyrically, the Sydney gang’s new choon deals with “the contradictions of modern womanhood”, referencing Carrie Brownstein from Sleater-Kinney’s memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl — a brutally honest tale of navigating the music biz as a female artist. But musically, it harks back to classic rock royals like Divinyls, The Pretenders and The Angels.

“I can only speak of my own experiences, I’m not trying to speak for other women,” says frontwoman Izzi Manfredi. “This song is about exploring the contradictions of my own identity.”

To toast the release, the gang have also announced a special performance at the Sydney Opera House as part of Vivid LIVE, which will go down on Thursday, 1st June.

The one-off bash will see The Preatures debut new material from their eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2014’s Blue Planet Eyes , which was produced by guitarist Jack Moffitt at their Doldrums studio in Surry Hills, before they enlisted LA mixing engineer Bob Clearmountain, who’s worked with everyone from Bowie and Springsteen to INXS, Divinyls and Crowded House.

Tickets to their album preview show at the Sydney Opera House will go on sale from midday tomorrow, 19th May. Catch all the details below, alongside their new track ‘Girlhood’.
