Melbourne band Pretty City have unleashed their second album and it’s a swirling, distorting listen that’s full of sweet spots.
Cancel The Future is premiering on Music Feeds today ahead of its release on 23rd March, allowing early entry into their technicolour world.
Coming two years after their debut album Colorize, this record sees them go bigger and reach further for a sonically expansive sound.
Johnny Rock from the band noted that the road towards the album was full of changes saying, “You always hear about bands putting heaps of pressure on themselves for second albums but I didn’t think we’d take so many turns and about faces to get to this point!
“Whole thing was recorded, scrapped, done at home, scrapped again, had new songs added, then dumped and then old songs brought back in. Then after the Wizard of Oz style tornado had it’s way with us, we brushed ourselves off, looked around and found ourselves in technicolor.”
That’s exactly the feel you get from this album. It’s one that takes classic songwriting and swells it with production textures and dizzying guitar howls. If the tornado had their way with the band, then they’ve sent it our way with this album.
The band just played SXSW in Austin and will spend much of the next few months touring Europe. They will be home for one cheeky show in Melbourne next month to celebrate the album release.
