PREMIERE: Up Late Succumb To Digital Paranoia With ‘U Left Me On Read’ Video

Wollongong’s Up Late have only been around for a hot second, yet they’re already proving themselves as determined rule-breakers within the country’s music industry with their new single ‘u left me on read’.

With a music video that sees frontman Max Pasalic spiral into a neon-coated whirlwind of digital paranoia and anxiety as he ponders what it could’ve been that meant he was left on read, ‘u left me on read’ is a dark and ominous track that is reminiscent of Bring Me The Horizon, Juice WRLD and Kanye West.

“‘u left me on read’ is audible anxiety and we wanted to carry that same emotion and feeling into the visuals,” Pasalic said in a press statement.

“It didn’t feel right for us to just shoot a standard performance piece — we wanted something more experimental, metaphorical. We worked with my close friend and incredibly talented director/filmmaker, Davros, on building out this theme of anxiety into a visual experience for the audience.
Traditionally I create/shoot all the art/photo/video for (the band) and this was the first time we worked with someone outside our camp, and I’m so glad we did,” he continued.
“He created this hazy/dream-like state – suspending me across roads/highways/footpaths/carparks as I levitate away from a nightclub on a rig that took him day and night to build. We spent three long nights working on this video, from Davros on the phone to Cesar workshopping the lighting, to Mitch and Simon building and packing down the rig at all 10 locations. We’re so proud of the visual language that resulted.”
