Pricey reveals debut single following departure from The Chats

After leaving The Chats last year and striking out solo, Josh Price (aka Pricey) has shared his debut single this week.

The track, titled ’88’, is as chaotic and energetic as you’d assume from the guitarist and songwriter. It serves as a bright and hectic opener for Pricey’s new jaunt as a solo artist and no doubt, will be an ear worm for fans and newcomers alike.

Of ’88’, Pricey’s said the song was written about ‘a special little place’ in Yaroomba Beach in Queensland. Built around the carefree nature and whatever-goes attitude that comes with life out there, he says ’88’ is very much tied to a literal place.

“It’s the beach access number where the free, the lost and the in-between escape the world to enjoy the small things in life over a cold one.”

’88’ comes from Pricey’s debut album, a record that was mostly written and recorded throughout last year.

“I went into the studio by myself to record my first track ’88’ in November 2020.” he’s said in a press release.

“Not having a band, I played all the instruments myself, including the drums, bass, guitar, lead guitar and vocals. It was challenging but very rewarding.”

The Chats announced Pricey’s departure from the band in December 2020. In his place, the Brisbane punk group welcomed Josh Hardy from The Unknowns to the group.

“Unfortunately, Pricey is no longer in The Chats. He has gone on to do his own thing, and we wish him all the best,” the band posted on Instagram.

Pricey will be launching ’88’ in August, where he’ll also be debuting a swag of new material – a great opportunity to see how this record is shaping up!
