Protesters are throwing their own Defqon.1 after its cancellation

Defqon.1 may not be going ahead this year, but now a group of punters have decided to take matters into their own hands and stage a protest rave.

A Facebook event called ‘OFFICIAL STREET PARADE – Defqon 1 We Are Here To Stay’ has popped up, with organisers calling on revelers to “charge your UE boom” to bring to the event.

Festival organisers Q-dance announced in May that Defqon.1 had been cancelled indefinitely after the venue, Sydney International Regatta Centre, withdrew its support.

After two people died at the festival in 2018, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian swore the festival would never return to the state.

Organisers of the Defqon.1 protest event are “calling on all warriors to reunite” on September 14 at the original venue.

So far over 1,400 people have clicked attending, with another 3,100 interested.

“I invite everyone to come together and stand up to the 1% of the government that controls 99% of the population in Australia and still celebrate on this day regardless,” reads the event description.

“Music has helped a lot of people and saved a lot of lives, as citizens of this country we have a right to stand up and fight for what we love…

“defqon 1 has made a multicultural community within Australia and when you cross the bridge it brings everyone together for 1 day where all our problems in the world gets put aside, we all show each other love and celebrate as one.”
