LA’s most notorious hipster, Franki Chan is one of the leaders of the indie DJ movement in the USA. Responsible also for blog, label and events company iheartcomix, and for signing acts like Toxic Avenger, Matt & Kim, Totally Michael, Heartsrevolution and others Franki Chan can be considered something of an indie mogul. When not making hipster culture happen you can also expect to find this man travelling the world over playing alongside names like MSTRKRFT, Justice, Spank Rock, Switch, Boys Noize, Lady Sovereign, Diplo, Acid Girls, The Presets, Para One, Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, Crystal Castles, Peaches, Radioclit….pretty much every hot act on the face of the globe! PhDJ http://www.myspace.com/welovephdj
Owner of Boundary Sounds, manager of Philadelphia Grand Jury, founder of Purple Sneakers, DJ, producer, genuine tastemaker, business dude, and party guy are just some of the tags you can put on Martin Novosel aka PhDJ. Recently returned from adventures across the USA where he hit decks in a slew of clubs, PhDJ is ready to get back to what he does best: mixing the most party filled indie tunes you’ve probably ever laid your ears upon! 2009 also saw PhDJ tour Australia at least 4 times, supporting international acts such as La Roux, Santogold, Ratatat, The Kills, Pase Rock and The Duke Spirit, and also playing at festivals such as the national Parklife tour, Field Day, Playground Weekender and the Big Day Out.
Surecut Kids http://www.myspace.com/surecut
Surecut Kids do party to the excess like no one else we know. They only genre they stick to it that it has to be the best party music this side of the moon! And if you can’t trust dudes with the biggest, fattest gold chains in the world who can you trust!?! Blasting down for the Gold Coast they’ll be adding the tropical bling and blasting beats to the party.
Purple Sneakers DJs http://www.purplesneakers.com.au
It’s a rags to riches story for the Purple Sneakers DJs – M.I.T, BenLucid & Nick Findlay. Starting out with only 2 indie songs on a slightly cracked CD-R and a burnt copy of the soundtrack to Flashdance these guys knew they had to make it work. Purple Sneakers DJs have spent this year going from woah to WOAH! They’ve been on stage at every massive festival in the country (Field Day, Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass, Come Together, Festival of the Sun), rocked the national Parklife tour (where they played between The Rapture and The Metric), toured the country for the ‘Purple Sneakers DJs We Mix, You Dance’ National Tour, made regular visits down to Purple Sneakers Canberra and have been continually invited back to numerous party stages (and hotel rooms!) all around Australia! These lads know how to pack a dancefloor and they be preparing their best and brightest for this year’s Purple Sneakers New Years Eve House Party!!
Strangeways
Strangeways are three dudes from Canberra making our nations’s capital a much hipper and funner place. They are a well kept secret, however when not DJing the two Tom’s and ‘the other guy’ are rockin basslines in a party band called Hancock Basement. Strangeways were hand-picked by PhDJ for the New Years Eve line up because as he once said “they are simply some of the best mixer’s of genuine indie tracks I’ve ever heard. They mix way better than I ever could!!”.
