Queens Of The Stone Age Are On “A Break”

We might not be seeing much of rock heavyweights Queens Of The Stone Age for a while. The band are currently “taking a break” after touring relentlessly behind their 2013 album …Like Clockwork, and are setting aside time to work on other projects.

In a recent interview with Gigwise, QOTSA bassist Michael Shuman said, “There will be future stuff with Queens, we’re just taking a break since we had a long, long two years of touring. We’ll take a break to do other stuff.”

Shuman said QOTSA were initially keen to record a new album after wrapping up touring behind …Like Clockwork, but said it’s good to give the world a bit of a break from QOTSA now and then — although fans will no doubt disagree.

“We were eager because we were in a good spot, having fun and the record had done really well. But we decided to take a break because we had been going so hard for so long, and we really worked on that record for a long time,” Shuman said.

“It’s not like we’re sick of each other and don’t want to do it – it’s just better to step back for a second and come back once the world has had a little bit of a break from you.”

There was a six-year gap between QOTSA’s 2007 album Era Vulgaris and its impressive follow-up, …Like Clockwork. That said, frontman Josh Homme revealed in July last year that “there’s a lot of new Queens Of The Stone Age songs” in the works.

Homme has previously said that his main priority after wrapping up touring behind …Like Clockwork is to focus on the next Eagles of Death Metal album.

Shuman, on the other hand, is currently playing in the trio Mini Mansions, who will release their second album, The Great Pretenders, in early April. The album will feature a guest appearance from The Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, and includes Artic Monkeys’ Alex Turner on the recently-released single Vertigo.
