ICYMI: Queens Of The Stone Age recently unveiled the artists who’ll be supporting them at their Splendour In The Grass sideshows next month and surprised everyone by naming a little-known Indigenous bush-punk band from Australia’s remote Arnhem Land to warm up the stage for them in the NT.
Six-piece Lonely Boys scored the coveted gig with the rock royals, and it turns out they’d never even heard of QOTSA until they got the call.
“Tell you the truth, my music came straight from the bush and I never heard of Queens of the Stone Age,” singer/bassist Ambrose Daniels admits to ABC News. “But I did research on YouTube and I noticed they’re the biggest band in the world.” #Bless
Lonely Boys also come bearing the seal of approval of award-winning A.B. Original MC Briggs.
“Being from [the band’s hometown] Ngukurr … they’re not bound by formulas or have to adhere to what a scene thinks is cool or anything like that, they’re just making music that they like and that their community can bond with,” Briggs tells the ABC.
Lonely Boys will be making the 700km trek from Ngukurr to Darwin next month to open for QOTSA in the NT, one of the band’s three Splendour sideshows.
