UPDATE 11/09/16: Both felony weapons and drugs charges against Desiigner have now been dropped, leaving the rapper only to answer to misdemeanour charges of menacing and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Original story: Panda rapper Desiigner is currently behind bars after being arrested in New York on multiple felony drugs and weapons offences.
As Pitchfork reports, the MC – real name Sidney Royel Selby III – has been slapped with a number of serious charges, including criminal possession of a loaded weapon, criminal possession of a controlled substance, and criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, after police intervened in a ‘road rage dispute’ involving Desiigner and his entourage.
The rapper and four of his mates -including hypeman Michael Davis – were all arrested following the incident, the details of which are currently a bit sketchy.
However, a police spokesperson has confirmed that Desiigner was also charged with menacing for threatening another driver with a gun.
He and his posse reportedly fled the scene following the showdown, but the driver of the other vehicle got their licence plate details and the NYPD tracked them down soon after.
According to TMZ, police also allegedly found Oxycontin and other drugs when they searched the rapper’s SUV.
At the time of writing, Desiigner remains in custody, and his reps have yet to comment on the incident.
