Record Roundup: Klaxons, Jolie Holland, Mac DeMarco, Sam Smith

Today’s Record Roundup features some of Some of independent music’s more colourful artists as well as some rising newcomers, with releases from English new rave indie rockers, Klaxons, jazz-inspired singer Jolie Holland , Canadian multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco and breakthrough Londoner Sam Smith.


Klaxsons – Love Frequency

After sharing their new singles, disco-flavoured, glimmering There Is No Other Time and the accompanying A-side track, the psychedelic Children Of The Sun, Klaxons have announced information on their hotly anticipated third studio album, Love Frequency. The album will be released in Australia on 30th May.

The follow-up to 2010’s Surfing the Void, features production from Gorgon City, the Chemical BrothersTom Rowlands, Erol Alkan and James Murphy.

Jolie Holland – Wine Dark Sea

Retro-inspired american singer and performer, Jolie Holland has announced she will combines her beloved elements of folk, traditional, country, rock, jazz, and blues into a bold new album Wine Dark Sea, due out this 16th May.

Wine Dark Sea was self-produced by Holland who mined New York’s fertile downtown jazz and experimental scene for an ensemble of talented musicians including Doug Wieselman (Lou Reed), Indigo Street and others. The sense of fun they had recording the album is tangible.

Mac DeMarco – Salad Days

Following up 2012’s lauded record Mac DeMarco 2 and his much talked about Meredith Festival appearances Spunk Records are gearing up to release, Salad Days, the brand new record from 23-year-old Canadian multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco, due out 28th March.

Written and recorded around a relentless tour schedule, the new offering is said to give the listener a very personal insight into DeMarco’s mind amidst the craziness of a rising career in a very public format. No word yet whether his recently leaked lady-parts inspired tune will feature on the record.

Sam Smith – In The Lonely Hour

Rounding off an incredible 12 months Brit Awards and BBC Sound Poll winner Sam Smith, has announced the release of his debut album In The Lonely Hour, due out on 23rd May through Capitol Records. 2013 saw Sam’s journey from featured vocalist on Disclosure’s breakout hit Latch and Naughty Boy’s La La La, to being awarded some of the industry’s biggest accolades.

His debut single, Money On My Mind has also just blazed into the number one spot on the UK Official Singles chart, making Smith the first Brit’s Critics’ Choice winner to go straight to the top of the chart with a debut single.
