This year marks 20 years since live music and variety show Recovery first aired on our TVs. There’s plenty of rumblings going around of a potential reunion of the iconic and beloved cast, but while we wait for that to be firmed up, we can get our fix of ’90s nostalgia via the upcoming Recovery 20th Anniversary CD/DVD box set.
The box set has been pieced together using all the greatest moments in the show’s brief but hugely effective stint on the airwaves. Before officially shutting down in 2000, Recovery scored live performances from the likes of Midnight Oil, Silverchair, Nick Cave, The Dandy Warhols, Sonic Youth and many, many more — all of which were broadcast straight into our homes every Saturday morning from 9am.
The unique and unpredictable chaos thrown at hosts Dylan Lewis and Jane Gazzo made for some of the finest moments in Australia’s live TV history. As Gazzo explains, the show just so happened to be at the right place in the right time.
“It was definitely a significant and healthy time for music in this country…There’s still an excitement about these live performances that was there when they were first broadcast,” she says.
The box set comes in standard and extended editions, and features two CDs and two DVDs. It will also come in digital format.
The release drops on Friday, 4th November with pre-orders available now, and follows on from a hugely successful special on Rage. Now, we sit and wait for that Recovery reunion announcement…
