There’s a new buzz surrounding Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, and it’s coming from the 200,000 bees he’s now keeping in his backyard.
As TMZ reports, the Australian-born American muso installed three beehives in his backyard last month, and has filled each one with over 60,000 bees.
Posting Instagram photos of himself with the bees (below), Flea has shown his love for the creatures with some super-cute captions, including “Pleezus more beezus,” “Me about to get busy with my beautiful little bees that I love” and “I love my bees. Flea’s bees.”
Flea’s passion for beekeeping not only stems from his obvious love for the insects, but from his environmentalism.
With honeybee populations dying off, Flea is reportedly taking a few months to Save The (Bee) Population as it were, since Red Hot Chili Peppers aren’t touring at the moment and Sting isn’t so big on the whole beekeeping thing.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are set to release a new album later this year, which Flea has described as “super danceable, funky shit and some real introspective, pretty stuff”.
