Last month, Sydney indie favourites Red Riders took to Twitter to announce the fact the four-piece will be going their separate ways. Now, the band have revealed that they will play two special farewell shows for their dedicated fans.
Once again, the Riders used Twitter to announce the news (soon, we will lament/celebrate the complete obsolescence of publicists, perhaps). The shows will take place in Melbourne and Sydney, with fans left in no doubt that these are the “last shows EVER.”
Red Riders formed back in 2003 and were quickly picked up by prominent indie label Ivy League. Over the years they managed a credible following and established themselves as a strong festival band, even though in their eight years together they managed to release only two studio albums, 2006’s Replica Replica and 2009’s Drown In Colour.
According to the band’s website, a third album was in the pipeline as recently as Christmas, although the news of the group’s demise has put paid to that idea. In April, they announced, “After eight immensely fun years of playing together as Red Riders it seems like now’s the right time to bow out. We’re all still the closest of friends, but just feel like the entity that is Red Riders has run its course…”
The end of Red Riders frees up band member Alexander Grigg to concentrate on his other band, the upcoming Straight Arrows.

Saturday June 18, Oxford Art Factory, Sydney, NSW
