Remi’s new single Substance Therapy deals with some pretty big issues: drugs, depression and mental health. In true Remi style, his words are honest and hard hitting, outlaying the good, the bad and the ugly sides of turning to drugs to comfort an unstable mind.
Remi has a compelling ability to articulate dark and intimate experiences in a straight up but sensitive way. The impact is two fold when his words are set to Sensible J’s production; harsh hip hop beats, splashy cymbals, driving bass and gutsy synths. Let’s call it a poignant banger.
“…a demon in a scream mask, brandishing a hunting knife… When I take drugs, or drink it’s the equivalent of giving that motherfucker the coordinates to my house. It just makes everything so much worse. This is basically the sound of coming down… Got too much pride to cry for assistance so I party all the time.”
This track is the second single off his upcoming album Divas and Demons, the first being his collaboration with Sampah The Great, For Good. With two single releases like this, the wait for the full album, released in September through his own label House of Beige, now seems all the more painful.
Ease the pain by seeing Remi play Splendour in the Grass later this month. Tix available here.
